The introduction of the sermon should be interesting and related to the theme and text. It should be no more than 5 minutes.

It is important to have an understanding of the historical background of the text chosen. You must consider the time of the message from a historical perspective.

The body of the sermon should have three key points or thoughts as a guide. The body should be no more than 15 or 20 mintues.

The body should answer the questions:

  • What is the argument or point of the message
  • What is positive or negative about the theme and text
  • What is the sermon answering and why

The body should give definitioins, explanations, comparisions, relations and contrasts.
